What is homoerotic in the original story by Hesse? Where in the novel do the characters display erotic attraction to one another?
Why can't two men love each other and see in each other other aspects of self that they have yet to develop without wanting to jump each other's bones, as Hesse intended to depict these two characters?
It's extremely annoying to witness this misunderstanding in both the film director and critics.
